August 2025 – The IRS has updated the mailing addresses for certain tax payments, and it’s important for taxpayers to take note. If you are sending a payment with Form 1040-V (Payment Voucher) or Form 1040-ES (Estimated Tax for Individuals), you may now need to mail your payment to a new address, depending on your state of residence.
In recent years, the IRS has consolidated and updated its payment processing centers. As a result, many taxpayers who previously mailed their 1040-V or 1040-ES payments to other locations (such as Cincinnati, OH) are now instructed to send these payments to a different address.
This change affects both estimated tax payments (Form 1040-ES) and balance due payments (Form 1040-V) for a wide range of states. The IRS has published updated state-by-state mailing addresses for these forms on its official website.
If you are an individual taxpayer, you should check the IRS’s Where to File page for the most current address. Taxpayers who live in Colorado should now mail payments to:
If you send your payment to an outdated address, your payment may be delayed or even returned. This could result in late payment penalties or interest. To avoid these issues, double-check the correct address before mailing your payment or consult your tax advisor.
Remember, you can avoid mailing delays altogether by paying electronically via IRS Direct Pay. Electronic payments are faster, more secure, and provide immediate confirmation.
Taxpayers should verify the correct address before mailing payments to avoid delays and penalties. For the most up-to-date information, visit the IRS Where to File page.
